Maymester 2014 Team

The Maymester 2014 group consisted of three students from the University of Texas at Austin and a Ghanaian peer from The University of Ghana, Legon.  The group’s main goal was to help sustain the mission and expand the vision of Helping Hand’s Apprenticeship Program (HHAP).

The team spent one week at the Culture Centre in Mr. Abu’s shop where they:

Business Foundations
  • Created an online store for HHAP through Etsy.com
  • Creation of an extensive business proposal for future grant and partnership endeavors
  • Established a business bank account with international access for online trade
  • Certified HHAP as registered enterprise in Accra, Ghana
  • Met with the Minister of Youth and Employment to apply for a European Partnership Agreement grant

For Future Innovations
  • Conducted vision and leadership training with Mr. Abu and the artisan masters
  • Implemented a social media strategy on Facebook

Sustainable Measures
  • Re-designed and implemented a map for the Cultural Center
  • Created a documentary to showcase program’s current initiatives
  • Donated funds and supplies for equipment and production
  • Updated website content on business blog
